Bio in English

Chris Aalberts PhD is a researcher and lecturer about media and politics. He has written several books on Dutch politics, especially on right-wing populist parties. In 2012, he published Achter de PVV [Behind the PVV]: a study on the voters of the Party for Freedom (PVV) of Geert Wilders. In 2015, he published De Puinhopen van Rechts [The ruins of the right]. In this book, lessons are taken from the failed structure and culture of Dutch right-wing populist parties, such as those of Geert Wilders and Pim Fortuyn. A new book on the populist party Forum for Democracy (FvD) of Thierry Baudet was published in November 2020: De partij dat ben ik [I am the party].

In addition, Aalberts has written books about Dutch Members of the European Parliament, the role of social media in politics, young people’s political engagement, spin doctoring and the local politics of the Dutch city of Den Helder. Aalberts writes for ThePostOnline, the regional newspapers of Mediahuis and De Kanttekening. He holds a PhD in communication from the University of Amsterdam, lectures at the master of media and journalism of Erasmus University Rotterdam and is a researcher at the research group on the Changing Role of Europe of The Hague University of Applied Sciences.
